NEW DELHI: In response to the Pahalgam attacks that had claimed 26 lives, India launched a strong counter operation, codenamed Operation Sindoor, allegedly against camps tucked into Pakistan.
According to claims made by the Indian administration, the strike was aimed at nine camps allied with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), presenting a joint show of strength from the Indian Army and Indian Air Force.
Following the operation, the Centre had an all-party meeting under the leadership of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, briefing all political parties. The meeting was attended by the top ministers, including Amit Shah, S. Jaishankar, and Nirmala Sitharaman, alongside opposition leaders like Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Sanjay Raut, Supriya Sule, and Asaduddin Owaisi.
PM Narendra Modi left the following message during the briefing: "Every Indian citizen needs to stand united." His remarks came as a strong appeal to put political matters aside and come together as one nation in times of crisis. Even the Congress Working Committee issued an unconditional message of support, signaling an unprecedented change in tone.
Meanwhile, the Centre issued directions to states to monitor social media closely for anti-national content amid attempts to discredit India by Pakistan in the aftermath of the operation.
